Spyro the Dragon Revives Original Trilogy in Upcoming Remaster: I can Finally try Spyro!

That’s right everyone, I NEVER PLAYED SPYRO THE DRAGON.

I played for maybe 15 minutes when I was younger but never actually got through a play-through of any Spyro the Dragon titles. The unfortunate state of not owning an original Playstation. You may now hold your pitch forks and torches high as I give you my run down of the surprising announcement for Spyro made earlier today.

Today has been such a cute day to me. Cute due to the fact of seeing everyone’s reaction to this upcoming trilogy. The remaster of an adorable dragon mascot from a generation so far away. With a quick leak this morning to an official confirmation, today is a great day for Spyro fans and younger audiences alike. The hype around this game is already bustling with joy and I have yet to hear one dis-grudging thought of this remaster yet. It seems to be very welcomed with open arms by many fans and a lot of my friends. Reassuring feedback is making this an enticing game to finally try out!

From what was announced, the original trilogy will be getting a face-lift to all of it’s levels, visual effects and original character models. Game-play elements have been said to be adjusted as well. Most likely a modernization the original control scheme and handling. Alongside overhauled graphics and control tweaking, the soundtrack is getting a faithful re-imagining with some new voice acting on it’s sound design. I have heard the lack of Tom Kenny was heartbreaking to few as he voiced many of the original game’s characters and Spyro himself. The reveal trailer shows off the new Spyro, both visually and audibly, in action. Check out the trailer if you have not already! Or watch it for the 100th time today.

Without an original Playstation in my childhood, I missed many titles growing up that have made such impacts on many gaming fans and the industry as well. Final Fantasy, Crash Bandicoot, Metal Gear Solid and a few more that could make a hefty to do list, have flown under my radar in my adolescence. As times go on, these titles started to become available on multiple platforms and gave me the chance to go back and actuall try them out. Spyro is now in the same boat. Spyro the Dragon is a 3D-Platformer with some very lively style in it’s heart with gliding, gem collectibles and an entertaining cast of characters and enemies. Though I may not have played much, just from the trailer alone I can see a great sense of fun, action and beautifully crafted levels available to explore and experience. For me, this will be the time I get to experience Spyro. It may not be the retro aspect but I will able to experience the joy he has brought many people throughout the years in this new remaster. For the larger majority of Spyro fans, it is going to be a nostalgic field trip. Joshua Nadelburg, the art director from Toys for Bob, goes on to say the following: “The remaster is really a love letter to fans, so we wanted to go back to the original Spyro from the original trilogy, and bring him to life in a way that fans would just really relate to. This is the Spyro that you remember”. You can check out the whole interview with IGN’s Joshua Dornbush as they delve deeper into bringing Spyro back to light.

The Spyro Reignited Trilogy will be available on Xbox One and Playstation 4 in September 21st, 2018. The month of their 20th anniversary too nonetheless! It is also up for pre-orders already on the Playstation Store and Xbox Store for $40 USD. This remaster is being developed by Vicarious Visions and Toys for Bob, the same developers behind the Crash Bandicoot: N Sane Trilogy, whilst being published by Activision. One thing that is lingering in the air is that there is also a potential Nintendo Switch version that could be released. The UK store listings showed a result with this game and the Switch together. Twitter user @LaurakBuzz posted this tweet earlier today showing a photo of the Switch version of Spyro on the Nintendo store: https://twitter.com/LaurakBuzz/status/981964853152768000. With how Switch version games have been announced lately, I have hope that this is a possibility. Vicarious Visions made a Switch for version for Crash Bandicoot; N Sane Trilogy so they have shown the ability that their game development teams are capable of the task. It would be another great third party addition to the console in my opinion and here is hoping the rumors follow through in the coming months as it nears launch.

So what are your thoughts on the Spyro Reignited Trilogy? Do you already have your copy pre-ordered? What console are you getting it on? Any levels you excited to experience once more in a new perspective? Am I a poor soul for missing out on Spyro during my childhood? Leave a comment! I would love to hear what is going through everyone’s mind with this huge announcement today.
